ART LAW

Eaves Mathews (EM) provides advice and counseling for private collectors, museums, and art galleries on a variety of art-related issues.  We are unique in Washington State because of our specific experience in the area of Art and Cultural Heritage law, and because of our relationships with the most respected industry experts and auction houses in the US.  We provide legal services in all types of art transactions, including the purchase, consignment, commissions, sale and auction of works of art, domestic and international loans of objects of art and art collections.  We also advise clients on cultural property and international trade issues, including treaty questions and export, import and customs matters.  We advise clients on museum best practices in the context of the shifting standards applicable to artwork title controversies, and can assist private collectors and dealers interested in bringing their business practices more in line with current court decisions as well as evolving museum standards.

We also handle a variety of art-related litigation matters, including those dealing with breach of contract, title issues, trademark and copyright infringement, defamation, moral and visual rights, and breach of warranty.
